After a month… I’m back!!! As the title suggests, I had a hunch that a commitment to a blog would be difficult for me to maintain, but I try! Between ITA classes for ESL certification and figuring out a new city, blogging was the last thing on my mind. Here in Granada, life is a little more relaxed, a little slower, and a little more reflective. So here it is.. a collection of pictures and memories from my first month in Spain.
Barcelona Part 1!! (See ya again in November..)
The city is beautiful, colorful, and Fun! I was amazed by the Elaborate architecture and diverse people

The daily commute to class

The view from the balcony of our apartment
even with the amazing city, the best part (hands down) was the people I met there
I am so grateful for the relationships I made through the TEFL certification class I took. Especially with my first BCN friend, Jessica, and my amazing roommates, Jazz and Hannah.

La Fiesta de Grácia
Walking to the first day of class!
The boys on El Gato Raval on our last night out
Ethan- our resident LA music expert/actor/comedian
Even with classes every day, the month was full of fun excursions and activities, exploring the city and enjoying life in spain
The first weekend, Jazz and I took a day trip to La Playa Castelldefels where we enjoyed the beautiful Mediterranean water and our first taste of paella. I’m drooling- it was so good!!

Paella de Mariscos
Gambas a la Plancha
We also were in the city at the time of La Fiesta de Grácia. Each neighborhood in Barcelona has a street festival during the summer, and Grácia’s is arguably the best because of the elaborate street decorations the people put up for the weeklong festival. We looked at the street themes, listened to music, and drank out fair share of vermut.

Some of the street themes were.. shall we say… problematic…

Every chance we got, we headed to the beach. It was crowded, noisy with vendors selling “cervesa, water, mojito” and club promotors who pounce every time they hear English or the word “Razzmatazz.” It was amazing to be able to tan and soak up the sun on a spare afternoon.
While the Sagrada Familia was a common sight on the commute to class every morning, I did only one “touristy Gaudà thing” while I was there, visiting Park Guell. We had the fortunate idea of going at sunset and it was magical- a gingerbread castle straight out of a storybook.

A punny sign at our favorite coffee shop, Fargo. Hannah, Jessica and I went there every day on our mid-morning break from class.
Portico of the Washerwoman
The city is beautiful at sunset, and there are so many places to see great views of the city. A hotel near our apartment, El Barceló Raval, had a rooftop bar with incredible 360 views of the city. We snuck up one day to take it all in.
Barcelona was amazing, but I couldn’t help but get little homesick… Thank Goodness for the beauty of facetime.

Papaw’s first Factime 🙂
And Mamaw’s first Facetime- technology is a beautiful thing 🙂
Somehow we managed this across 3 different timezones
So there’s my month in a nutshell.. I’ll probably go back and add details as they occur to me, but Mom and Dad have been on my behind asking about my next blog post lol. Stay tuned for updates from Granada, but in the meantime, consider this insight from the streets….
